Sitting In The Cheap Seats

In a wonderful case of life imitating art I have now, at the third time of trying, finally made it along to see The Play That Goes Wrong , a show that has done its best to elude me both in the West End and around the UK despite my best efforts to catch it. Now I’ve made it to the cosy Theatre Royal Brighton let’s find out if the show lives up to expectations!

Photo by Darren Bell Rehearsals for Marianne Elliott’s highly anticipated new production of George Furth and Stephen Sondheim’s  COMPANY  which opens at the Gielgud Theatre from 26 September 2018 began today (Monday 6 August 2018). Cast members including  Rosalie Craig (Bobbie),  Patti LuPone (Joanne),  Mel Giedroyc (Sarah),  Jonathan Bailey (Jamie) and  Richard Fleeshman (Andy) listened to Marianne’s plans for the show and had a first look at Bunny Christie’s designs.

With Spamilton: An American Parody recently extending its run at the theatre, the Menier Chocolate Factory today announces initial casting for their major revival of Hugh Whitemore ’s Pack of Lies . Hannah Chissick directs Finty Williams as Barbara Jackson and Jasper Britton as Stewart. The production opens on 1 October, with previews from 20 September, and runs until 17 November. The full company will be announced shortly.

As the National Theatre’s production of Macbeth gears up for it’s tour around the country casting has been revealed this week, so read on to find out who you can see and where they’ll be! (we can’t wait for it to visit our friends at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton)

In 1983, Adam Walsh went missing from a Hollywood shopping mall and quickly became the most famous missing child in American history. In 2017, a man called Adam Welsh googled himself and found Adam Walsh. This incident prompted him to write an intriguing semi-autobiographical debut solo show There but for the grace of God (go I) which runs for a limited number of performances this August.

The Donmar announces full casting for Artistic Director Josie Rourke ’s production of Measure for Measure by William Shakespeare. Joining the previously announced Hayley Atwell and Jack Lowden are Ben Allen, Matt Bardock, Nicholas Burns, Jackie Clune, Rachel Denning, Molly Harris, Adam McNamara, Raad Rawi, Sule Rimi, Anwar Russell and Helena Wilson.

Through the lens of a rock documentary,  Wasted  is a brand new musical that gives an access-all-areas account of the struggles, heartbreaks and triumphs of the three Brontë sisters Charlotte, Emily, Anne, and their brother Branwell.  Brought up in a remote, poverty-stricken town in Yorkshire, without money or opportunity, they fought ill health, unrequited love and family feuds to write some of the most celebrated literature including  Jane Eyre  and  Wuthering Heights .
